KANSAS CITY – Seafood is the star of the menu as restaurants provide options to consumers during Lent. And this year the operators are making waves in the bold flavor category.
Red Lobster is launching two new spicy fish dishes: Kung Pao noodles with fried lobster and the Baja Shrimp Bowl.
The kung pao noodles with fried lobster consist of beaten and fried lobster tail with noodles tossed in a sweet and spicy soy-ginger sauce with edamame, cabbage, crispy onions, cashew nuts and spring onions.
The Baja Shrimp Bowl contains spiced shrimp, avocado, black beans, quinoa rice, pickled red onions, crispy coleslaw, pico de gallo, sour cream and tortilla strips with jalapeño ranch.
The new Cajun flounder sandwich from Popeyes features a fried flounder fillet seasoned with Cajun spices, served on a toasted brioche bun with hardened cucumber and tartar sauce.
Quiznos launches the Old Bay Lobster Club with lobster and seafood salad with Old Bay spices, bacon, lettuce and tomatoes on a buttered bun with spicy mayonnaise, seasoned with Old Bay hot sauce. The sandwich is made primarily with lobster, but also contains Alaskan pollock.
Del Taco’s new crunchy honey mango jumbo shrimp taco features crispy jumbo shrimp, honey mango sauce, shredded cabbage, and pico de gallo wrapped in a warm flour tortilla.
Fuzzy’s Taco Shop introduces the Queso Shrimpico Taco, which contains queso on tempura or grilled prawns, corn pico, garlic sauce and feta on a flour tortilla.
Firebirds Wood Fired Grill serves the honey chile glazed salmon. The dish consists of grilled salmon over old pilaf (made with red quinoa, millet, farro, red wheat berries, and French green lentils), asparagus, roasted tomatoes, and grilled corn, all topped with charred corn salsa.
WaBa Grill offers the spicy Asian salmon salad, which includes a salad with cucumber, edamame, kimchi, cherry tomatoes, carrots and coriander with salmon and is served with a spicy sesame dressing and wonton strips.
