Richard L. “Rick” Huebner, 78, of Parsons passed away at his home at 3:59 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021.
Rick was born Nov. 15, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Edward Christoph Huebner Sr. and Mildred Lucille (Shoemaker) Huebner. Rick grew up and attended schools in Kansas City and graduated from Northeast High School in 1961.
Following high school, and still only 17 years old, Rick entered the U.S. Air Force. He served in Vietnam, Taiwan, the Philippines and later at Whiteman Air Force Base, where he retired with the rank of master sergeant after 20 years of service.
Following his discharge from the Air Force, Rick earned a bachelor’s degree at Drury University. On Sept. 15, 1984, Rick began his career with the Internal Revenue Service and served as a revenue officer until his retirement on March 31, 2005.
Rick was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. He also enjoyed going to auctions and bargain hunting. Rick enjoyed Elvis Presley music, fishing and bowling in earlier years. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He attended Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego and was a life member of Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Parsons.
Rick was united in marriage to Joan Carla Groff on Nov. 19, 1966. She preceded him in death on Jan. 27, 1996, after 29 years of marriage. On March 4, 2000, he was united in marriage to Cynthia L. (Spear) Willey in Parsons. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include three sons, Matt Huebner (fiancee, Shannon Millar) of Parsons, Jarrett Willey of Plano, Texas, and Jamie Willey (Diane) of Parsons; three daughters, Lauren Daniels (Josh) of Ankeny, Iowa, Kimberly Huebner of Parsons and Megan Huettenmueller (Scott) of Overland Park; 13 grandchildren, Eric Huebner (Katelen Bailey), Chase Sexton (Kennah Ludlum), Jared Huebner (Shaina Carpenter), Jordan Willey, Morgan Crozier, Addison Daniels, Mia Huettenmueller, Preston Huebner, Adam Daniels, Will Huettenmueller, Sydney Huebner, Isaac Willey and Matthew Huebner; and a great-granddaughter, Layla Huebner.
In addition to his wife, Joan, he was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Edward Christoph Huebner Jr.; and a stillborn grandson, Jacob Richard Huebner.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Parker officiating. Military honors will be given by Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Parsons. The rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with visitation following.
