Now that Major League Baseball has announced minor league affiliations and schedules for the 2021 season, the is Nationals took care of a remaining piece of unfinished business on Friday afternoon and announced their coaching staff for the upcoming campaign.
Matt LeCroy will move up a level to lead Triple-A Rochester after skippering Double-A Harrisburg for the 2016-19 season. In his 13th season in the Nationals organization, LeCroy was 2020 quality control coordinator in the minor league. Previously, he spent two seasons as a bullpen coach for the Nats.
Harrisburg’s new manager is Tripp Keister, who is starting his 10th season in the organization at the helm of the Senators. For the past six seasons he directed High Single-A Potomac and Fredericksburg. Keister led the Potomac Nationals to postseason appearances in 2014, 2016 and 2018, and won the Mills Cup in 2014.
Tommy Shields is returning to the shelter for the first time since 2012-14 as the manager of High Single-A Wilmington. He previously directed Kansas City’s single-A partner in Burlington, NC Shields, which is entering its seventh season in the Nationals system. He will keep his role as Co-Field Coordinator.
Mario Lisson begins his first season as a manager at Low Single-A Fredericksburg after being listed as the leader of the Low Single-A Hagerstown standings in 2020. For the past two seasons he was the rookie manager of the Gulf Coast League Nationals.
Jake Lowery will take on the GCL Nats, his first season in the role. A former professional catcher, Lowery has spent nine seasons in the minor leagues of the Nationals (2016-19) and Indians (2011-15).
