The City of Kansas City, Missouri, Revenue Division is reminding KCMO business owners that the annual business license applications are due by Sunday Feb. 28. A notable change this year is that payments are being deferred to help ease the financial burden small businesses are facing during the pandemic.
The payment deadline is June 30, 2021, but only those businesses that file by Feb. 28 are eligible for the deferral.
Quick Tax, our electronic filing option, is conveniently available to speed the filing process. In addition, businesses that prefer paper forms and instructions will find them online at our City Tax Forms page. Please choose the “Tax forms” link.
Remember, to qualify as a small business your gross receipts must be less than $4 million in calendar year 2020. This information will be reported on the license application and is used to determine the cost of the license.
New businesses or existing businesses changing their location, name or legal structure are required to complete a registration application and submit it to the Business License Section at 1118 Oak St., Kansas City, MO 64106 or via fax to 816-513-1264.
Failure to file by Feb. 28 will result in penalties and interest being assessed.
Taxpayers who have questions about their business license obligations may contact the Revenue Division Business License Section at 816-513-1120.
Media inquiries and other requests for information should be directed to Mari Ruck, Commissioner of Revenue at 816-513-4990.
