Everyone in the Pacific Northwest, and now Los Angeles, knows about it Justin Herbert, the Eugene, OR product that played college ball in Oregon. Now this kid on the west coast is getting even more national attention.
Justin Herbert is arguably the best rookie QB this year based on the 2020 draft. Yes, Joe Burrow is as good as advertised, but the experts were far less confident and sure about Herbert. His range of results ranged from the best in design to being the QB bust.
Every QB class has at least one bust. Check out the QB Design Class 2018. Lamar Jackson is the best, but he was the last to be picked. Josh Allen was just as good, maybe better than Lamar. Josh Rosen is almost out of the league.
Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold’s respective teams are still debating whether or not they are the true franchise QB, despite Mayfield taking Cleveland to the playoffs for the first time in ages and having had a good season.
Justin Herbert could become the Pacific Northwest’s greatest quarterback.
Oregon’s list of NFL quarterback is a mixed bag. From Dan Fouts to Marcus Mariota to Joey Harrington and Akili Smith. Fouts is just the best of the best. Smith is for sure the worst and arguably one of the largest busts of all time. Mariota’s career still has a chance of a happy ending.
Justin Herbert could be the best QB since Dan Fouts to play for the Chargers organization. This makes Herbert the best Oregon QB in the NFL. Ouch to Mariota. After all, he won the Heisman and Herbert didn’t. However, Herbert has an NFL Rookie of the Year and Mariota is on his second team. Mariota lost his starting job to Ryan Tannehill.
What’s crazy is that Tyrod Taylor had a crazy medical accident to get Herbert onto the NFL field. Taylor’s lungs was accidentally punctured Minutes before kick-off against the Kansas City Chiefs by the team’s medical staff. Herbert not only entered the NFL, he blew up their front door. When was the last time a rookie made such a rookie debut?
The LA Chargers are thrilled that Herbert stayed at college for another year. The argument that can be made is that Herbert is the greatest rookie quarterback of all time. Herbert owns the rookie touchdown mark at 31. Herbert threw a total of 38 yards less than Andrew Luck, but did so in one less game.
While Herbert’s play was amazing, the results did not correlate. His record is 6-9, but he ended up with a four-game winning streak. The Chargers have their next QB franchise after Philip Rivers’ move.
Justin Herbert will lead the indictment of dethroning the Kansas City Chiefs at AFC West. The chargers battling the Chiefs for the foreseeable future will be a must see on NFL television.
