KANSAS CITY, MO. – More than 1,000 Missourians with Humana health plans may have their personal information disclosed.
Humana released a statement Friday that around 65,000 of its members – including about 1,600 in Missouri – had been informed that a Cotiviti subcontractor helping Humana obtain medical records “for reviewing the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services reported data are required “. An employee “inappropriately” disclosed this information between October 12 and December 16, 2020.
Humana was made aware of the incident on December 22nd.
“The subcontractor immediately deactivated the access of the now former employee. Both Cotiviti and its subcontractor have developed a comprehensive strategy to prevent further unauthorized disclosure of information, ”the press release said. “Humana also worked with Cotiviti to ensure that immediate action was taken to improve security and keep personal information secure now and in the future.”
