Mr. Jacky “Jack” Dale Black, 86, of Columbia passed away at his home Saturday May 29, 2021. He was born December 9, 1934 in Boone County Missouri, a son of the late Wallace “Major” H. and Una L. Lyle Black. He united in marriage on August 20, 1954 to LaVerne Pace who survives at their home.
In addition to his loving wife of 66 years, Jack is survived by three daughters: Jacqueline Crocker (Michael) of Overland Park, Kansas; Jane Ann Travlos (John) of Ashland, Mo; and Jennifer Cone (Rex) of Columbia, Mo. He was blessed with nine grandchildren: Derek Crocker (Sarah), Jackson Crocker, Christine Minter (Joe), Katherine “Katie” Crocker, Jessica Travlos, Kalliope “Kalli” Hineman (Dustin), Ben Travlos (Ally), Gretchen Cone and Miles Cone. He and LaVerne also share two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Olivia. Jack thought of LaVerne’s sisters and brothers as his own: Rexene Boren (deceased); Joetta Strand; Saralyn Pace (deceased); Robert “Pete” Pace (deceased); Ellene Vanskike; Russel Pace and Ruthie Purcell. He had four nieces: Barbara Grecious (Tony), Beverly Brown, Brenda Long (Bucky) and Diane Daugherty (Michael). He also has one nephew, Brent Black (Sandy) and sister-in-law, Betty Black.
He was preceded in death by his parents four brothers: James, Wesley, Bobby, Billy; one niece, Shirley Dale and a nephew Ronald Dean.
Funeral services were conducted at Parkade Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Cook officiating. Jack was laid to rest at the New Liberty Baptist Church in Ashland, Missouri.
Pallbearers assisting were: Derek Crocker, Jackson Crocker, Ben Travlos, Miles Cone, Joe Minter and Dustin Hineman. Honorary Pallbearers were: Larry Atterberry, Maurice Benskin, Jack Blaylock, Gayl Bunch, Ralph Hoevelman and Russel Pace. Pallbearers in Memoriam were: Pressley Brinegar and Dr. William Stringer.
